Dichotomy

Two-Channel Video Installation

Exhibition: Next/Now
Gallery: Exhibit
Location: Tulsa, Oklahoma
Year: 2011

Dichotomy is a two-channel video installation exploring perspective, duality, and the limits of a single point of view. The work presents synchronized recordings of ballet dancers captured simultaneously from opposing angles, allowing viewers to experience the same performance from both the front and the back at the same moment.

Displayed on two vertically oriented screens, the installation creates a visual dialogue between the paired viewpoints. Movements that appear expressive and familiar from one side are transformed when seen from the other, encouraging viewers to consider how perception changes depending on where one stands in relation to a subject.

By presenting two equally valid but fundamentally different perspectives of the same performance, the work examines the relationship between observation and understanding. The installation uses choreography, synchronization, and spatial presentation to explore how a single event can contain multiple realities depending on the viewpoint from which it is experienced.

The work was presented as part of Next/Now, a curated exhibition at Aberson Exhibits in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
