Tall Grasses
Interactive Light Installation
Commissioned by: Jackson Hole Public Art
Location: Jackson, Wyoming
Year: 2020

Tall Grasses is an illuminated sculptural installation inspired by the movement of grasses shifting in the wind. The work creates a responsive landscape of light that changes continuously through motion, color, and interaction, encouraging visitors to move through and engage with the installation as a living environment.
This version of Tall Grasses was developed for presentation by Jackson Hole Public Art in Jackson, Wyoming, expanding on an earlier iteration originally commissioned for Georgetown Glow in Washington, DC. The installation was updated with revised structural elements and lighting systems designed for extended outdoor exhibition and long-term public interaction in changing environmental conditions.
The installation consists of individually standing illuminated forms ranging between three and six feet in height. Each element contains custom electronics, sensors, and independently controlled lighting systems that respond in real time to environmental conditions and nearby movement, allowing the sculpture to behave as a dynamic field of light.
