Pas De Quatre

Interactive Video Installation

Commissioned by: Science Museum Oklahoma
Location: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Year: 2020

Pas de Quatre is an interactive video installation that connects the movement of visitors with the motion of four ballet dancers displayed across three vertically mounted screens. The title references the classical ballet term “pas de quatre,” meaning “dance for four,” traditionally used to describe a performance involving four dancers. In the installation, the viewer becomes an active participant within this relationship, influencing the choreography through their own movement and posture.

Using real-time body tracking, the installation responds to the position and gestures of participants, causing the dancers to perform movements that mirror and reinterpret the actions of the viewer standing before them. As visitors move through the space, the dancers shift between choreographed sequences and responsive interactions, creating the impression of a live performance unfolding between the body of the participant and the figures on screen.

Commissioned as part of a solo exhibition featuring interactive works by the artist at Science Museum Oklahoma, the installation encourages visitors to experiment with movement and engage directly with the responsive behavior of the dancers. The piece combines filmed dance performance, real-time motion tracking, and interactive software to create a playful participatory experience centered around movement, gesture, and performance.
